NEWLY APPOINTED SECRETARY CABRAL OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH VISITED WESTERN VISAYAS
Last January 18, 2010, The newly appointed Secretary of Health Esperanza I. Cabral visited the people of Western Visayas. The Secretary was given a warm welcome from the employees of DOH-CHD Western Visayas, Chief of DOH-Hospitals and other attached agencies in the region. She was with Hon. Cong. Janet Garin of the 1st District of Iloilo who rendered an inspiring welcome message for the Secretary “A person that inspire us not only in the government sector but as well as in the private sector, GOs and NGOs. “Never in the history we have encountered such a brilliant manager and a contingent doctor”, Hon. Garin said.
According to the consolidated report submitted as of January 6, 2010 of the two (2) sentinel sites in Western Visayas namely Westen Visayas Medical Center and Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital. There was a decrease in the total number of firecracker injuries as compared to last year, 2009.
The Philippines, as a party to the Framework on Tobacco Control has an obligation to implement Article 11 as a means to protect the Filipino people from the harms of smoking through effective measures on packaging and labeling of Tobacco products.

Preliminary Report on the Initial Investigation Done on Hepatitis A Suspects in Brgy. Mapatag, Hamtic, Antique
The Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of Antique informed the RESU of clustering of possible Hepatitis A cases in Brgy. Mapatag, Hamtic, Antique. The DOH – CHD sent a team to give technical support and conduct an epidemiological investigation. We coordinated with Dr. Ma. Eve Pacificador (MHO-Hamtic), Dr. Ralph Cabral (Prov’l Health Team Leader) and Hon. Leopoldo Pancho (Brgy. Captain, Mapatag). Dr. Zoilo Bernardo Tubianosa (Prov’l Health Officer II) was also informed of the event.
